To mark the 75th anniversary of VE Day on Friday 8 May, the Royal British Legion is calling on individuals and communities across the UK to come together during key moments to pay tribute to the service and sacrifice of the entire Second World War generation. As we face some of the most challenging times since the end of the war, now more than ever it is important to come together and unite, just as communities did 75 years ago.

We ask everyone, wherever you may be, in Wadebridge and our surrounding communities, to join the national moment of reflection and Remembrance at 11am on Friday as we pause in a two-minute silence to honour the service and sacrifice of the Second World War generation, and also take the opportunity to reflect on the devastating impact Covid-19 has had on so many lives across the world.

The circumstances today are different to those of 75 years ago, but the response of our communities remains the same: Be kind. Unite. We can, and we will, pull through this together.

Egloshayle Cemetery is now open

Wadebridge Town Council, as the burial authority, has received clear guidance from the Government and the Local Government Association that our cemetery can now be re-opened to the public.

“The Ministry of Justice has confirmed that Section 5 (8) of the Health Protection (Coronavirus, Restrictions) (England) Regulations 2020 requires those responsible for crematoria to close them except for funerals. This requirement to close would also include a cemetery if the crematorium is situated in the cemetery, which could then only be open for burials. The regulation does not apply to other cemeteries, which can stay open”

We thank you all for being so understanding during this difficult time - stay safe.

Wadebridge Town Council has decided that due to the current Covid-19 restrictions it will not be possible to hold the Flowers for Wadebridge gardens, business and allotments competition this year. https://static.xx.fbcdn.net/images/emoji.php/v9/t1a/1/16/1f33b.png"); background-repeat: no-repeat no-repeat;">🌻https://static.xx.fbcdn.net/images/emoji.php/v9/tf0/1/16/1f338.png"); background-repeat: no-repeat no-repeat;">🌸

However, we know many residents will be busy in their gardens and if you would like to e-mail pictures of your garden or flowers/plants you are growing (or post them on our Facebook page) we shall display them via a link on the Town Council website.

We have had a few comments with regards to the Town Hall clock not showing the correct time and that it has now stopped.

Due to Covid-19 the clock is unable to be wound (being a manual wound clock not electric) because of lockdown of the Town Hall as two people are required to perform this duty. This will not be wound again until the Town Hall is fully staffed.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused.

Egloshayle Cemetery is CLOSED to the public until further notice

Wadebridge Town Council, as the burial authority, has received clear guidance from the Government and the Local Government Association that our cemetery should now be closed to the public, except for funerals or burials.

We know this will be distressing for you and this is why we have not taken any action to close the cemetery until we have been instructed to do so.  As the authority responsible for the Cemetery we have a duty to discourage public gatherings and encourage social distancing in trying to help our NHS and to stop the spread of Coronavirus.  Regrettably, this now applies to our Cemetery.

We understand that the Cemetery is a very special place and brings comfort when you visit your loved ones.  Please be assured we will continue to look after the Cemetery and, like you, look forward to being able to open once again.

Please take care and if you need to speak to us please contact us on 01208 851929.
