Put on your glad rags and polish up your dancing shoes… or at least get in the mood to cheer, boo and hiss in approved pantomime style. A brand new production of Cinderella is coming your way, opening in Wadebridge Town Hall at the beginning of December.

Rehearsals are nearing completion for this magical production, featuring true love, mistaken identity, fortunes made and lost, and two hilarious stepsisters who might just put the “ugh” in “ugly”.

Join Cinderella (Katie Welch) and her BFF Buttons (Dylan Kilpatrick) as she yearns for a better life, one that doesn’t involve her high-handed stepmother (Cate Halford) and sassy stepsisters, Beryl and Cheryl (Ross Harvey and Tom New), who together make life miserable for unfortunate Baron Hardup (Danni Barry). It’s doubtful if the Baron’s desperate gamble on Pasty the racehorse (Steve Pratt) is going to come good.

Meanwhile, Prince Charming (Gerard McMahon) is weary of responsibility, so swaps his royal sash with his servant, Dandini (Jackson New) and ventures into his kingdom to hand out invitations to the Royal Ball. This causes some fine confusion, especially when they get mixed up with dodgy money-lenders Snitch and Snatch (Caroline New and Kathryn Pipe).

When the disguised prince meets the ragged Cinderella, it’s love at first sight… but the Prince must find a wife at his royal ball. Will Cinderella be able to make it there and secure her Happily Ever After? Time for some magic from a glamorous Fairy Godmother (Gillian Molesworth).

Produced by Wadebridge Town Council with support from WREN and the Lottery Community Fund, this production is a delight for all ages. It is directed by Lucy Gordon Clark, whose recent area productions include Treasure Island, Romeo and Juliet, and A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

Wadebridge Mayor Amanda Pennington says: “It’s been so much fun watching this production develop and I’m really looking forward to sharing some festive fun with members of our community. Well done to everyone who put so much work into it, especially our amazing town clerk Anne Minnis. And don’t forget… it’s behind you!”

Lucy Gordon Clark says: “We wanted a fun, heartwarming production that would really light up the dark days of December. It’s been wonderful watching the characters emerge through the rehearsals, and the songs and dances take shape.”

Cinderella runs from Wednesday, December 7 to Saturday, December 10, with evening performances at 7.30 every night and a matinee performance on Saturday the 7th at 2.30. Tickets are available from Krazy Kards and the Wadebridge Library; or, buy them from the Cornish Riviera Box Office, http://www.crbo.co.uk
