Reading of the Proclamation

At 3:30pm on Sunday 11th September 2022, Deputy Lord Lieutenant Gaynor Coley read the Proclamation following the death of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II and the succession of King Charles III.

Deputy Lord Lieutenant Gaynor Coley was joined by other Deputy Lieutenants, the Mayor and Deputy Mayor, Wadebridge Town Councillors, Scott Mann MP and our two Cornwall Councillors along with many members of the community who assembled to witness this historic moment.

During the Proclamation the flags were raised to full mast, before returning to half-mast where they will remain until 8am on the day following the Queen’s State Funeral. It was a significant and moving moment when 'God Save the King' was proclaimed by all present. This was followed by everyone singing the National Anthem.

Wadebridge Town Council would like to thank everybody who attended and participated in the event, and a thank you to Debbie Bate Photography and Seaglass Craft for capturing this moment in history and to Mike Ford for use of the PA equipment.

God Save The King

All residents are welcome to attend to hear the proclamation and witness history in the making.

FLOWERS

Flowers may be laid outside of the Town Hall and at The Memorial Stones at Egloshayle.

It is respectfully requested that no cellophane or plastic is left on the flowers.

The flowers will be removed the day after the funeral of her Majesty the Queen.

It is the intention of the Town Council that the flowers will be composted and the compost used to plant a tree in memory of the Queen.

Wadebridge Town Hall & Wadebridge Library Events

Following the death of Her Majesty The Queen Elizabeth II, the Country now enters a period of national mourning which is expected to last for around 10 days.

It is with deep regret that all pre-planned events, bookings and Council Meetings in the Town Hall and Library from Friday 9th September until at least Monday 19th September will be cancelled with immediate effect (please note that Pavilion bookings will be going ahead as usual).

In line with the protocol it is not appropriate to hold events during a period of national mourning.

We understand that some will be disappointed by this news but holding events / bookings is not fitting with the mood of the nation or in accordance with the recognised protocol.

The Town Council feels that the passing should be marked in a dignified, solemn, and appropriate manner.

The Town Hall will only be available for residents and visitors to sign the book of condolence in the Main Hall, which will be archived after the funeral.
